In this article I would like to go through my very own personal journey in mlm. There is a lot of hype surrounding this type of business and when I attended my very first meeting I think that I was drawn into it like so many other people without realising the cold hard facts.
With the meeting that I attended for my very first mlm company there was so much energy going about the room. People first started going on to the stage with their incredible testimonials of how wonderful the product worked for them. Subsequently after this people again walked onto the stage describing how much money they were earning. Some were just earning a small part time income. Others were earning an extraordinary amount of money. The guests got very excited about also achieving these financial prospects.
However, some interesting statistics that I learnt was that usually only about five percent of people succeed with this type of business. Also in the company that I was sponsored into the retention rate was only about twenty percent. I do not think that anything ever prepared me for the negativity that I experienced while running this business. Family and friends do not like to be sold products by people that they know. This is a very big put off.
Some interesting things that I learned about marketing principles that you can virtually apply to any type of business. The very first step is that you need to have a lead capture page. The primary purpose of this page will be to capture the details of your lead so you can market over and over again to them. They were then sent emails encouraging them to purchase the business opportunity cd.
Now what I found truly amazing was that the emails were proven to convert into sales. I started receiving sales of the cd and had to ship them to the people who ordered them.
Now one of the reasons that the company did this was that the cd did a much better job of presenting the business than what a person could. This consequently meant that more people would join the business than if you did a personal presentation.
Other interesting things that I learnt was that you needed to have a system whereby you first qualified the candidate before accepting them into your business. This helped to introduce only serious candidates.
The company also used the following structure to help grow the downline and get duplication going. The first stage would be to train new recruits and show them what they need to do. The second step would be to recognize people who were doing well in the business as this would validate to other people in the business that the principles taught actually worked. This was used to encourage them to get going. And finally promotions like holidays were offered to get people to push themselves so that they could qualify for the promotions.
I learnt a lot from these marketing principles and I think that you can apply some of these principles to most types of home based internet businesses.
