The question is always asked, What is the best way to approach a potential prospect? To answer that question, let me ask you this question…What is more effective pulling a rope or pushing a rope? Sounds like a pretty simple answer doesn’t’ it? Yet most network marketers use the “pushing the rope” technique much to their demise.

I am sure you would agree most people would rather be helped along in some endeavor rather than being pushed into something. Think about the last time you were in a car dealership or a clothing store. When the sales person comes up to you and asks “may I help you”? What is your answer? My answer is typically, “I’m just browsing, but I will call you if I need you”. Does this sound familiar to you? If it does, then stop trying to push people into your business.

This applies to all network marketing companies. If you are considering joining an MLM, or are in one already you have probably had the experience of an associate in your upline recommending that you purchase a bunch of company DVD’s and send them out to all of your warm market. (Those people who know you already). Predictably you will notice that the response is zero or close to it. Why… These contacts did not ASK you for the information. What you have accomplished is not only wasting your time and money but you have alienated all of those contacts. Had you spoken to them first to find out IF they had an interest in a secondary income source, for example, a few might have welcomed the information.

I have taken this another step further. This next step allows me to build my business and increase my income because people contact ME for more information. When I give them the information they request, I am literally “pulling the rope”.
